The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, assured industrialists that despite the goal of reducing the deficit to 3.5% of GDP by 2025, the budget for that year will include public works. Sheinbaum stated that there will be executive projects for strategic works throughout the six-year term, including passenger trains, highways, and the development of key infrastructures such as the Maya Train and the Interoceanic Corridor.
Alejandro Malagón Barragán, president of Concamin, had expressed his concern about the reduction in public investment, requesting that it represent 5% of GDP. However, Sheinbaum clarified that her budget plan for 2025 will include funding for significant works such as housing development, with an allocation of 50 billion pesos for the National Housing Commission.
The Mexican leader pointed out that these investments will help advance job creation, although she acknowledged that the projected investment will not be as high as in the following years, when more projects will be underway. Sheinbaum indicated that meetings are already scheduled with the Ministry of Finance to fine-tune the budget details. The president reaffirmed that despite the deficit reduction, the 2025 budget will indeed include important infrastructure projects.
